최근에 알게 된 시인데, 내가 종교가 없기는 하지만 그럼에도 충분히 좋은 시라 생각해서 올린다..

죽음에 대해 무의식적인 공포를 떨쳐내지 못하는 나에게 시인의 독실함은 놀라울 따름이다..

영시에서 사용되는 고어체 때문에 읽기 어려울 수도 있겠다.

Death, be not proud, though some have called thee

Mighty and dreadful, for thou art not so ;

For those, whom thou think'st thou dost overthrow,

Die not, poor Death, nor yet canst thou kill me.

From rest and sleep, which but thy picture[s] be,

Much pleasure, then from thee much more must flow,

And soonest our best men with thee do go,

Rest of their bones, and soul's delivery.

Thou'rt slave to Fate, chance, kings, and desperate men,

And dost with poison, war, and sickness dwell,

And poppy, or charms can make us sleep as well,

And better than thy stroke ; why swell'st thou then?

One short sleep past, we wake eternally,

And Death shall be no more ; Death, thou shalt die.
